Measure the stored configuration
Measure width, depth and height as the grill will actually stand in storage. Are shelves folded, a thermometer attached or extra holders fitted? A cover for the basic outline may not accommodate every accessory. Tight fabric strains at corners, while excessive loose material flaps in wind and catches around wheels or feet.
Check that fasteners secure to intended areas without pulling on gas lines, controls or delicate attachments. Do not loop a drawcord around arbitrary connections. You should be able to fit the cover over a cold grill without force or tipping the unit. If substantial effort is needed just to stretch it over the corners, the fit is probably unsuitable.
Do not conceal trapped moisture
Cover a cleaned, completely cold grill when reasonably dry. A wet surface beneath close-fitting fabric is not automatically protected just because further rain is blocked. Follow ventilation guidance and periodically inspect underneath. After prolonged damp weather, check for pooled water and signs of corrosion instead of assuming the cover has solved every storage issue.
Choose fabric and seams appropriate to the intended location. Resistance to rain, sunlight and abrasion are separate properties. A broad weatherproof claim says little about each one. Read care instructions and inspect tears or worn corners regularly rather than leaving the cover unattended until it falls apart.
Keep the rest of storage safe
A cover does not change gas-cylinder or fuel-storage requirements, nor does it make an unsuitable location safe. If the grill is stored indoors without its cylinder as directed, the cylinder still needs its permitted separate location. The cover is one component of storage, not a replacement for the complete arrangement.
Clean and dry the cover according to its instructions too. A damp dirty bundle ages differently from a cared-for item. While cooking, put it far enough from heat and sparks that it cannot become a new combustible object beside the appliance. That simple habit also makes it easier to refit cleanly once the grill is genuinely cool.
Use grilling equipment only in its intended location and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Timing is not a substitute for checking doneness.
